A Fast-Growing Village on Flat Farmland
Savoy didn't incorporate until 1956 and stayed small for decades, then became Champaign County's fastest-growing municipality between 2000 and 2024, more than doubling in size. Nearly all of that new construction sits on the same historically poorly-drained black prairie soil that made clay drain tile a local industry across the county in the first place.
Newer Basements, Same Flat Prairie Drainage
A basement poured during Savoy's growth surge is younger than most in the county, but young construction on flat, historically wet prairie ground still depends entirely on how well the lot was graded and piped at the time. Water intrusion in a newer Savoy basement often traces back to site grading decisions made during that rapid build-out, not to age.
